What Makes Kroger ClickList a Game Changer?

What is Kroger ClickList?

Millennials get blamed for a lot, including the decline of many businesses ranging from the diamond industry to Hooters to napkins according to this article from the Business Insider. Honestly, I can see all of that. Outside of my diamond wedding set, I want my jewelry to be unique, colorful and tell a story. Don’t even get me started on the concept of Hooters (#ByeFelicia) and paper towels are the clear choice over napkins—you can use them for everything!

Although, there is one stereotype I sometimes hear that I find downright offensive. That is this, “Millennials are just LAZY.” Our generation may be a lot of things, but lazy is not one! Almost every millennial I know has a full time job, a side hustle (mowing, part-time job, trainer, selling the latest craze to take the internet, etc.) and is going back to school for a second degree or certification that will make them more marketable in the workplace. Because of our busy schedules, the thing we value the most is TIME!

Which brings me to the topic of this blog, “What Makes Kroger’s ClickList a Game Changer?” *Spoiler Alert* It’s the time you save!

When I first heard about Kroger’s ClickList, I thought it was kind of a joke. Do I really want random strangers picking out my groceries? What about fruits and veggies? What if something I order is out of stock? Is the time saved really worth the pickup fee ($4.95 per pick up)?

Rest assured, Kroger thought of everything and that $4.95 pick up fee pays for itself over and over. Let me run through the steps to placing and picking up an order.

Placing Your Kroger ClickList Order

  1. Visit https://www.kroger.com/products/start-my-cart and login to start shopping.
  2. Pick the day and one-hour time range you would like to pick up your order. You can place an order up to 3 days in advance!
  3.  Start shopping! Search for items by the name of the product, brand, department, sku number and more. Once you find what you are looking for, adjust the quantity and add it to your cart. (Something I LOVE about the experience is that I don’t have to search for coupons. If they have a coupon available for what you are ordering, they place it right there on the item and you simply check a box if you want to apply it to your cart.)
  4. Once your shopping cart is complete, head over to checkout where you can then add notes to each and every item as well as check mark whether or not you would like the item to be substituted should it be out of stock. If you allow them to substitute, then they will pick a product that is equivalent to what you ordered. If the substitution is more expensive than what you originally order, Kroger honors the price of the item in your cart. The notes section can be used to describe what kind of fruit you want to be pick from how green or yellow you want your bananas to how much air you want in your bag of shredded lettuce. (The less air the longer it will be fresh!)
  5. Complete the checkout and then continue on with your life until the day and time you selected to pick up your groceries.

Picking Up Your Order

Picking up your order is just as easy. Follow the parking lot signage to the designated parking for ClickList customers, pull in the first spot and call the phone number on the sign to let them know you are there as well as the number on the spot you are parked. Then pull on through to the next spot to park and wait for your order to come out. Not only do you get to sit there scrolling mindlessly on your phone while you wait, you never have to step out of the vehicle. When they come out with your groceries they will hand you your receipt, go over any items that were substituted or out of stock and ask where they should put your items. The whole process generally takes 10-15 minutes.

Voila! No crowded grocery aisles, no germy carts, no wondering up and down every aisle to find what you need, or adding last minute junk food to the cart. All that time and stress saved can be used towards the 25 other things you have going on.

Just to be clear, I’m not a Kroger Ambassador getting paid to market this. I just really appreciate when a company recognizes a growing market (Move over Baby Boomers, Millennials are now being catered to!) and finds ways to make our lives more streamlined.

So no, we are not lazy. We are busy, exhausted, overworked, underpaid, swimming in student loan debt and don’t want to waste our precious free time doing mundane tasks if we can avoid it.
